Periodontal Maintenance

After completing periodontal treatment, your condition has been arrested, but not cured. Periodontal diseases are chronic conditions, much like diabetes and cardiovascular disease, which require constant monitoring to ensure that your disease remains inactive. Most treated periodontal patients require more frequent cleanings, usually on a quarterly basis, rather than the traditional six- month schedule. The frequency of these visits is determined on an individual basis by Dr. Bloch and your general dentist. Typically, periodontal maintenance is managed with an alternating schedule of appointments between offices.

During your periodontal maintenance visit, your periodontal status is closely monitored for any changes. At times, interceptive periodontal procedures are initiated to treat any sites or pockets that demonstrate significant signs of disease activity.

Our staff of dental hygienists will communicate with your dentist after each visit to share pertinent information regarding the stability of your periodontal condition. We firmly believe that preventive dentistry is the best dentistry.
