Sedation Options
It is our goal to make you as comfortable as possible during your visits to our office. Local anesthesia (Novocain) is used for most procedures; however, additional sedative options are available to reduce any apprehension or anxiety you may have towards treatment.
Oral Sedation
Anxiety can be well controlled by a medication from a group of drugs called benzodiapezines. This medication is taken orally prior to your appointment. You will need to be driven to and from the office and should not drive or operate machinery for 24 hours after oral sedation.
Intravenous Sedation
On occasion, intravenous sedation may be recommended for your procedure. This is a deeper form of “conscious sedation” and will be provided by a licensed ambulatory anesthesiologist. If IV sedation is utilized, you will need to be driven to and from the office and should not drive or operate machinery for 24 hours after your procedure.
Inhalation Sedation
At times, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) may be used alone or with other techniques to reduce anxiety.
